Step by Step Instructions to make Spanish Tortilla Recipe

Step 1

Mix onions, potatoes, and half a teaspoon of salt in a small bowl.

Step 2

Now, heat half of your sunflower oil (olive oil) in a large skillet or non-stick frying pan. Cook the onions and potatoes on low heat. Cover it with a lid for 5 to 7 minutes to let it soften.

Step 3

Now give it more heat until golden brown. After becoming golden brown, turn off the heat and remove the extra oil.

Step 4

Then take a medium bowl and break the eggs in it. And add the remaining salt (half a teaspoon) and milk to this bowl. Mix it very well until frothy.

Step 5

Now add potatoes and onions to the egg mixture and whisk vigorously until fully mixed.

Step 6

Then, use another frying pan or clean the previous one and put it on the stove. Now, heat 2 tablespoons of oil (remaining oil) on the highest heat.

Step 7

Then add the burning oil to the mixture we made in the above steps. When you add this oil, start moving the pan around to help the tortilla to rise. Now fry it until it becomes golden brown. At this point, your tortilla is golden brown inside and outside.

Step 8

Now low the heat and let it cook inside. After 4 to 5 minutes, turn the heat too high to give the tortilla a beautiful brown look from the outside.

Step 9

At this point, your tortilla has been completely cooked. Now, place a flat plate over your pan and then flip it. Place it again in the frying pan to give the other side the golden-brown look.

Step 10

Finally, your savory Spanish tortilla is ready to serve.

The Authentic Tortilla Española | Spanish Potato & Onion Omelette Recipe

The Spanish tortilla, also known as tortilla española or tortilla de patatas, is a traditional dish from Spain. Despite its name, it is not a tortilla in the Mexican sense, which is a type of flatbread. Instead, the Spanish tortilla refers to a thick omelette made with eggs, potatoes, onions, and olive oil.

The Spanish omelette or potato omelette is one of the most popular snacks in Spain, consumed in all homes, and is the most requested tapa in bars and restaurants, no matter what province of Spain you are in.

Salads are one of the most popular options to accompany tortillas, as they are very light options. They bring that touch of freshness that goes so well to the tortilla.
We can choose any type of salad, but I recommend that you avoid those that include meat, such as the Caesar salad or salads with a powerful dressing or sauces. Choose fresh and light options, such as the spinach and apple salad; a green salad; or the classic Mediterranean salad.

A Spanish omelette is typically called a “tortilla española” in Spanish. It is a traditional dish from Spain and is made with eggs, potatoes, and sometimes onions. The tortilla española is cooked in a skillet and typically served in slices as a main course or as part of a tapas spread. It is a popular and versatile dish enjoyed in Spanish cuisine.

The Spanish omelette, also known as the tortilla española, is said to have originated in Villanueva de la Serena, a city in Badajoz, Extremadura. (Europa Press indicates that this city is recognized as the birthplace of the potato omelette, which emerged in the 18th century.)

Yes, Spanish tortillas do have eggs. Eggs are one of the main ingredients used in this dish.
